In this chapter we begin to see the miracles and plagues that God performed through Moses on Pharaoh and the Egyptian people. God ordains Moses as a god (little g) to Pharaoh and Aaron as his prophet. We first see Aaron’s rod turning into a serpent and then turning the waters of Egypt into blood.
God said he would harden the heart of Pharaoh, and every time Aaron or Moses performs a miracle, his magicians and mystics are able to copy it. I’ve always heard that the magician’s and mystic’s miracles were counterfeited or faked by illusion or some other trickery, but based on the wording of the scripture, I’m wondering if God could have given them the powers to do the same miracles of Moses and Aaron so that Pharaoh’s heart would be hardened.
Nevertheless, like Pharaoh, people who’s hearts are set against God will tend to believe what they want to be true. In this case, it was that Pharaoh’s entourage was as powerful as Moses and Aaron and ultimately God.
I was a little disappointed that moses older sister just disappeared after the story of him being put in the river
Way to go Bekah! You were the first to comment after we read Bro. Roger’s post last night at our teen activity.
But I guess God was done using her after that
Be patient about Miriam’s disappearance. She will show up now and then in Exodus. Miriam was definitely a leader for the women as you will see in chapter 15.
God says that He would harden pharaoh’s heart so was He using this as a way to punish Egypt?
Exodus 10:1-2
And the Lord said unto Moses, Go in unto Pharaoh: for I have hardened his heart, and the heart of his servants, that I might shew these my signs before him:
2 And that thou mayest tell in the ears of thy son, and of thy son’s son, what things I have wrought in Egypt, and my signs which I have done among them; that ye may know how that I am the Lord.
God was re-establishing His Abrahamic covenant by putting an exclamation
point as to His identity. God is the Almighty Jehovah!
Exodus 6:1-3
Then the Lord said unto Moses, Now shalt thou see what I will do to Pharaoh: for with a strong hand shall he let them go, and with a strong hand shall he drive them out of his land.
2 And God spake unto Moses, and said unto him, I am the Lord:
3 And I appeared unto Abraham, unto Isaac, and unto Jacob, by the name of God Almighty, but by my name Jehovah was I not known to them.
Thursday we read chapter six. God repeats many times in this chapter that “I am the Lord.” God’s desire is for the Israelites to accept Him as their God, and Him alone.
Exodus 8:
God had sent Moses to get the Israelites from Egypt, but pharaoh hardened his heart toward God. So God showed His power through Moses by giving pharaoh the plagues. But when Moses did this it didn’t just effect pharaoh, it effected all of Egypt. This is kinda like everyday sin. When someone sins it doesn’t just effect them, it effects other people too.
You have to trust God that he will do what He says also do what he commands.
God sent Moses and Aaron to perform the miracles but pharaoh had the magicians. Satan always will find a way to imitate God. And one of the questions I had was why does satan try to copy God? Usually people will only copy those who they admire or look up to.
while i was at the creation museum this weekend i learned that God sent all the plagues to prove that the gods of Egypt were fake for example the locusts were to prove that the locust headed god of harvest was fake, and the darkness was to prove the sun god was fake, and the boils were to prove the god of healing was fake as well.
We do serve a pretty Awesome God!
