October 26 – Thoughts on the Afterlife – 1 Corinthians 15
Paul writes to help the Christian understand the importance of the resurrections of Jesus Christ, and how it will affect us in the future. In verses three and four, Paul explains the complete gospel; Christ’s death, burial, and resurrection. I have heard man’s opinion that our salvation was complete at the cross of calvary. Paul addresses this false teaching in verses 13-19. The fact is that if Christ had not risen from the grave, we would all be doomed to Hell without the promise of Heaven through Jesus Christ. Paul also wrote about our bodies in Heaven. We know that our earthly bodies will go back to dust. Paul points out in verse 44 that there is a difference between our natural (earthly) body and our spiritual (glorified) body. Verses 51-53 goes further to explain that not all people will experience death, and at the time of Christ’s return, our bodies will transition from natural (earthly body) to spiritual (glorified body). Verse 58 gives us the reasons to understand what will happen: to encourage us to be “stedfast, unmovable, always abounding in the work of the Lord.”
