January 2 – Enoch – Genesis 5:18-24
Enoch’s life stood out differently from all the others in this chapter in two ways. First, the phrase “Enoch walked with God” emphasizes his relationship with God was at a very high level. Second, the end of his life seems mysterious as verse 24 states “and he was not; for God took him.” Hebrews 11:5 reveals the meaning of this phrase. Enoch’s experience was much like Elijah’s experience with death as they were both just taken up into Heaven. Just think, this is the same experience that Christians living at the end times will experience (I Corinthians 15:51-55; I Thessalonians 4:17).
