January 22 – Gideon – Judges 6-8
As the angel of the Lord greeted Gideon in Judges 6:12, we find the response of Gideon much like many church-going Christians today. Gideon had much to complain about, and he quickly identified what the problem was with the Israelites. The angel, just as quickly, identified the solution to the Israelites predicament lying directly upon Gideon’s shoulders. Gideon quickly excused himself from this responsibility by pointing out reasons why someone else should step up. He couldn’t afford it. Nobody would follow someone so insignificant. He was not qualified. The same excuses we offer at times when the Holy Spirit convicts our hearts to do something for Him.
The end of the story is a well-known miracle of God, but I would like to emphasize Gideon’s willingness to be used. When the angel found Gideon, he was busy doing something. When challenged with an impossible task, he begged God’s hand and moved forward. Gideon did not have an “I will do it my way” attitude. What God wants is someone who is already doing something. Someone who wants God’s hand involved in their task. Someone who will do things God’s way. How about you? What are you willing or not willing to do for God?
God loves you and wants the best for you in your life. He knows what will make you the happiest. Just Please God.
