April 8 – Simeon and Anna – Luke 2:21-38
Simeon was told by the Holy Ghost that he would see Christ before he would die. In verse 27 we read that Simeon was led by the Holy Spirit to go to the Temple. Amazingly it happened to be at the same time that Jesus was there with His parents. Some may say it was just a coincidence, but we know better. It is amazing how many “coincidences” a Christian experiences when he is committed to following the leading of the Holy Spirit. It is important to decide on a daily basis to follow the Holy Spirit’s leading.
Anna was a widow for 84 years serving God faithfully in the ministry of fasting and prayers. This is not a glamorous ministry at all. Nobody would notice if she skipped a day. Nobody would know if she just went through the motions. Anna was rewarded by getting to see Jesus.
Both Simeon and Anna gave us great examples by pursuing God’s purpose in their lives. We find two very important practices in this chapter. Following the Holy Spirit’s leading and fasting prayers.
