October 24 – Description of Love – 1 Corinthians 13

I Corinthians 13 is a very well known chapter on love.  As you read through the list of character traits that make up love, notice that all of these things require some kind of action.  For us to say we love one another, but do not back that up with actions; we are deceiving ourselves.  Paul goes through a list of spiritual gifts, and emphasizes that each of the spiritual gifts require an addition of love to make it effective.  The secret ingredient for all Christians to include in their life is love.  Verse 13 mentions faith, hope, and charity or love.  We know that without faith it is impossible to please God.  We know hope is the promise of Heaven and the return of Jesus Christ.  And now we know that without the application of love to our spiritual gifts, we are useless for the cause of Christ.  Who did you love this week?  Who will you show love in church tomorrow?
