Week 2

January 6 – Sarah – Genesis 16:1-15, 18:1-15, 21:1-7

Sarah made her share of mistakes, but let us remind ourselves that she was chosen by God to be in the lineage of Jesus.  Genesis 16 starts by giving us the account of Sarah making a bad decision when her decision maker is broken.  She is feeling inadequate and quite the failure as she is unable to give Abraham a son.  Sarah’s desire is to please her husband, and to help God’s promise to be fulfilled.  She made the situation worse.  In Genesis 16:5 Sarah seems to be placing the blame on Abraham’s shoulders . . . and she was right!  As leader of the home, Abraham has the responsibility to lead his home which includes protecting his wife from making this bad decision.   Notice how Hannah handled the same situation in I Samuel chapter 1.
