July 2 – Peace with God – Romans 5
Many folks claim to have peace with God, but the real question to answer is “Does God have peace with me?” Being justified by faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ. If someone is to go to Heaven when they die, they can only do it through Jesus Christ. As by one man (Adam) sin entered into the world, and the result was the condemnation of the world; so, through one man (Jesus) coming to earth, living a sinless life, and dying for our sins, the result will be paying for our condemnation. The only way to achieve peace with God is by faith in Jesus Christ. Faith in Christ is more than a knowledge that Jesus existed and you believe that He died on the cross. Faith is also having a trust and confidence that Jesus, being the Son of God, paid for your personal sin debt which you cannot pay. Faith is accepting this free gift, and placing your eternity in Christ’s hands alone.
Verse 2 reminds us that through faith we have access to God’s grace. It goes on to say that we should rejoice not only in the hope of the glory of God, but also, in our tribulations that allow us to grow in our faith. You may be facing trials and hardships in your life. Let me encourage you to first of all trust Christ as your Saviour, but then immediately transition to trusting God and having confidence in the circumstances which God gave you, so that you can rejoice in your trials. God loves you. Let’s place our confidence in Him.
