August 1 – Christians’ Victory in the Spirit – Romans 8
Romans 8 is packed full of truths. The battle between the flesh and the Holy Spirit is a real battle for which you are the one to determine the outcome. The decision comes when we choose to be either carnally minded or spiritually minded. It is our choice what we think about as our thoughts will turn into our actions.
Among the many truths in this chapter, there are three that I have gone to numerous times over the years. Verse 26 reveals that the Holy Spirit makes intercession for us when we are in such despair or need help so badly and we do not know what to pray. He hears our groanings and goes to the Father in our behalf for what we truly need. Verse 28 holds the great promise of everything in our lives being used for good which I have claimed many times. Verses 37-39 is a reminder that we are conquerors not because of who we are, but because of who God is. These verses remind us that absolutely nothing can separate us from God’s love.
What promise or thought will you take with you throughout the day today? You will decide to be carnally minded or spiritually minded. Focus on the world and let that control your actions for this day, or focus on godly things and allow that to control your actions for this day. Focus on the fear and uncertainty the world has to offer, or focus on the victory and love that God has to offer.
