March 13 – Nebuchadnezzar – Daniel 4
Nebuchadnezzar was King of Babylon. It is interesting that a man that did not worship the true God had such respect for the people that truly worshipped God. In this chapter we read of Nebuchadnezzar having a dream that Daniel interprets. The interpretation was that the king was going to be thrown out of the palace, and the king was going to live like a crazy animal for seven years. Daniel gives the king some advice to keep this from happening. The king was to have victory over his sins with the tool of doing right. Here is a principal if you are struggling with a particular sin. It is impossible to just quit doing wrong, one must also replace the wrong doing with doing right.
In verse 30 we see the king’s downfall. A year has passed since Daniel warned the king, and things seem to be going well for Nebuchadnezzar. We see a blatant disregard for God, and a prideful heart takes over. One hour later the prophecy is fulfilled, and Nebuchadnezzar is living in the field with the animals like a crazy man. In verse 37 the king finally acknowledges that God will humble those who are prideful.
Let’s be aware of our pride issue, as we all have pride in our hearts. Let’s make sure we give God credit, and glorify Him with our lives.
