April 28 – Ananias and Sapphira – Acts 4:32 thru 5:11
Ananias and Sapphira were husband and wife. They were living in a very powerful time in the life of the church. All the people were filled with the Holy Spirit. They were unified, bold, and experienced great grace. Many were selling property and bringing the money to the disciples. Ananias and Sapphira were one of those that sold land to give the money to the disciples, but when it came time to give the money, they kept back some of the money for their own. This act cost both of them their lives. Peter explained the reason as their lying to the Holy Ghost. What caused them to do this? Did they get more that they thought? Did a sudden need come up? Did they second guess their decision after they committed? We don’t really know. What we do know was that they fully expected to get away with their attempt at deceiving Peter and the Holy Ghost. It is good to have good intentions, and to make commitment to Christ. If you make a commitment to God; make certain you fulfill the commitment.
