May 13 – Luke – II Timothy 3:10 thru 4:22
Luke’s occupation was a doctor before becoming a disciple of Jesus Christ. Luke was a witness to the many miracles of Jesus. He heard the many sermons given by Jesus. Luke saw Jesus tried and crucified. He fellowshipped with Jesus after He had risen from the grave. It is safe to say that Luke was quite involved and dedicated while Jesus was on this earth.
Today’s passage reveals the character trait of faithfulness in Luke. Luke is only mentioned once in II Timothy 4:11. Paul is saying his farewells as he knows his time is limited on this earth. Paul makes the statement “only Luke is with me.” Luke has remained faithful in serving Jesus with Paul. He has remained loyal to Paul even as Paul is in prison.
